Ok people, here's something from good ol' Cornelius Agrippa's Three Books of Occult Philosophy. In Book II, Chapter XXII the illustrious renaissance guy mentioned the use of planetary squares as talismans. This article will address this topic and expand a bit on it since our venerable predecessor mentioned astrological necessities when it comes to such talismans.
All seven classical planets are mentioned in that chapter alongside each of their respective square, how it should be done, what for and moreover, when. But for this experiment I will solely focus on the square of Venus. It should be noted I have yet to experiment with these talismans, but more than often I have found Agrippa's notes with respect to astrological needs regarding the powers of the talismans also apply in other kinds of planetary magical workings.
Agrippa mentioned the following for Venus:
"The fifth table is of Venus, consisting of a square of seven drawn into it self, viz. of fourty nine numbers, whereof seven on each side and Diameter make 175. and the sum of all is 1225. And there are over it divine names with an Intelligency to good, and spirit to evil; And there is drawn out of it the Character of Venus, and the spirits thereof. This being engraven on a Silver plate, Venus being fortunate, procureth concord, endeth strife, procureth the love of women, conduceth to conception, is good against barreness, causeth ability for generation, dissolves enchantments, and causeth peace between man, and woman, and maketh all kind of Animals and Cattle fruitful; and being put into a Dove-house, causeth an increase of Pigeons. It conduceth to the cure of all melancholy distempers, and causeth joyfulness; and being carryed about travellers make them fortunate. But if it be formed upon Brass with an unfortunate Venus, it causeth contrary things to all that hath bin above said."
We see Agrippa distinguishing between the powers of the talisman when made at times when Venus is fortunate and the opposite of those powers when made at times when Venus is unfortunate. By this is to be understood times when Venus happens to be strong in the zodiac, such as when it is in domicile (Taurus, Libra) or exaltation (Pisces) as being the strongest conditions for Venus being fortunate, whereas the strongest conditions for it to be unfortunate would be when it is in exile (Scorpio, Aries) or in fall (Virgo). One should also not overlook hard aspects between Venus and the likes of Saturn and Mars.
These requirements are simple for someone who's barely gotten to learn their basic astrological lessons, but unfortunately they are overlooked by many in their ritual work. Even more unfortunate is when people increase their personal income by providing magical services to others with the help of planetary forces when the respective planet happens to be unfortunate, unless the situation requires it based on the goal of the operation.
But anyway, moving on to the actual talisman itself we see there is a need for it to be made of silver. Silver is cheaper than gold so more people should be able to afford it, especially since there's no need to use a whole lot of it. A small piece would do yet it should be large enough to accommodate the 49 numbers on it and you should be quite skilled at inscribing them on such a small surface. Fortunately, you've got enough time to practice in case you want to take a shot at this, as I will get into the astro stuff further on. You could go to a jeweler and have them melt some silver and shape it into a small plaque and drill a whole in one corner so you'd be able to hang it to a chain or something for wearing it around your neck for instance. You could even go a step further and perform a general cleansing on the plaque and then store it somewhere until the time of the ritual.
Now, I don't see why someone couldn't be able to use something other than silver, although I'm sure hardcore grimoirists would be appalled by what I'm about to say, thinking it's sacrilege or whatever. Yet keep in mind this is part of the experiment in case someone can't procure (that much) silver. Moreover, good ol' Cornelius himself mentioned parchment as a substitute for the Mercury talisman so... although I'm sure the grimoirists would say that refers strictly to Mercury because the letter of the grimoire and all that. But anyway, in lack of silver or even parchment I don't see why someone can't experiment by drawing it on a clean piece of paper in silver and then cut it to size... Or you can use copper instead?!
In any case, I don't think there'd be any need to add sigils to it since the source doesn't mention any, but you could add them on the other side should you choose. I don't see why you couldn't simply add the planetary glyph of Venus on the other side and be done with it.
The kamea alone works by drawing dawn the energies of the planet so it should do and you can very well make use of separate sigils for the spirits when you're conjuring them to charge the talisman.
For this I have selected the following election: April 8, 2022 at 10:05am GMT - Friday.
All you'd have to do would be to make sure you're able to do the ritual at that time. Have the silver plaque or whatever by then and some engraving tool ready. If you cannot procure a silver plaque use paper and silver ink and the hell with it! You can laminate it later on to prevent damage and so on.
When the time arrives cast your circle and tune the space to Venus in whichever way you are accustomed. Light a green candle and some Venus incense and whatnot. Then inscribe the plaque or paper with the 7x7 square on one side. Add the glyph of Venus on the other side if you want. Then conjure Venus spirits and ask them to charge the talisman so that it will work in such and such way as in the description, either one or more of the powers - your choice. You can call on Anael (this being not the best rendering I could find on the go although you're free to use other versions too - I usually use the ones from The Heptameron)
or even Hagiel
and Kedemel
or all three of them together and then once they're done give them the candle and the incense and license them to depart. Or you can simply pass the talisman through the incense smoke and ask Venus to send its spirits to consecrate it for such and such purposes after reciting the Orphic hymn to Venus. You can do it using Scott's ritual style or otherwise.
Once that's done you can wrap it inside a clean cloth, green if you have one, or place it inside a new envelope and leave it on the altar until the candle and incense are gone. Then have it on you when you're out and about and see what happens. Worse case scenario nothing will happen - nothing good yet nothing bad either. But it does have a probability of manifesting certain things since it's been empowered with Venus juju after all so...
Otherwise, if you're willing to make this talisman (on brass) to cause such and such unpleasantness for someone based on its powers when Venus is unfortunate, you can wait for another month, say May 6 at 10:10am and make use of the following election. It is also on a Friday and the chart is set for GMT so you'd have to edit it and have Venus on the Midheaven.
We can see Venus in exile in Aries and I placed it in the decan of Mars to make it even more unfortunate. It is on the Midheaven although I thought it'd help focus even more of that misfortune into the working. It is uninvolved in hard aspects, but you can do it a couple of weeks later when it'll be square Pluto. It is likely it will be in the terms of Mars too. The Moon is in domicile again and uninvolved in hard aspects so you'd be good to go.
Imagine making such a thing and giving it to someone as a gift. Then, if it works the way our buddy Cornelius instructed us, it should cause the recipient to experience all sorts of wonderful adventures with respect to Venus related stuff, dotcha think? :D
And voila! Your very own Venus talisman. Relatively easy to make and use. No need to get my talisman class for it even. Mind you, I haven't experimented with these kinds of talismans before so if you happen to give it a go for whichever purpose then do gimme a buzz and let me know how it worked.
Or you can use this election for any other Venus working, including all sorts of Venus talismans, both of your own design and purpose and from old sources, KoS (scroll down) pentacles included ;) See the end of this article as an example.
Hate on, dum-dums!
