I initially wrote this article on Saturn, but now I will explore another side of this planet. More exactly, I will speak of Saturn's role in regards to time and mostly, people's perceptions of time and how their daily consciousness adapts to it will be covered.
Besides sorrow, Saturn also covers nostalgia and melancholy. These two emotions have the quality of making people "live in the past" and, often, have a great longing for it. This is not a mere recollection of memories, it is a harkening back to events or the status-quo of past years.
Some people often speak of the "good ol' days", usually with an underlying touch of sadness or a deep longing for certain periods of their past. This may or may not revolve around others, for it could very well represent the person's own circumstances during those moments. The point is the individual chooses to not only remember those particular moments often, but bares those memories in mind most of the time.
While there may be nothing wrong with this, the problem arises when the person is prevented from moving on with their life due to being stuck in those memories. It's similar to braking up with someone and then being unable to begin another relationship due to being stuck to the memories of the former partner, or the relationship as a whole. Or finishing high-school and being unable to cope with college because of longing for those high-school days.
There are many such examples and we can notice their effects in everyday life with certain people. From class reunions where folks recall their past experiences together with nostalgia, to new year's eve when some look back with uneasiness to the year that's ending, or collecting countless albums of photos one often looks though, such events and actions act on keeping a part of people's consciousness locked away from the present moment.
Instead of paying attention and focusing on what's at hand, doing it and moving on, people trap themselves in an impossible to escape "time bubble". The reason it is impossible to escape is because those in question aren't even aware of it to begin with. Even if they were, they're not aware of the actual cause behind it. They may think it's due to their desire to relive happy moments or interact with people they are fond of, or even because of a fear of old age and death they keep shying away from, but that's not it.
Time passes, people come and go, events begin and end, everything is finite. But the soul is eternal. Now, when it comes to the soul we must understand that it has its own agenda, often different from our daily wants and desires, which seem petty compared to the overarching themes souls interweave. One of the most important points in a soul's agenda is to explore the physical world and enrich itself with the fruits of lessons learned through various experiences. Those experiences are of the physical existence, being mundane in nature, but they can only occur if the person takes physical action to make them happen. Otherwise, they merely remain in potential, being stored as some kind of dim background noise to memories, especially those memories people cling in to.
The cause behind "living in the past" is the reminder that, during any of those past times people so longingly remember, they should have acted differently than they did. By having done so, they would had stepped out of their comfort zone and begin experiencing newer circumstances, the kind their soul needed to learn from. Having failed to do so, any such wasted opportunity becomes embedded into the fabric of memories that will end up anchoring the individuals' consciousness to the past.
Therefore, Saturn's influence of making people nostalgic over bygone times is nothing more than the planet's way of forcing people to look back and realize they should've done things differently. It does so through its nature, by combining chronology and emotions that can prove heavy, demanding from the person to diligently sort through their memories and see whether their outcomes aling with their inner motivations, drive, ego, aspirations and so on.
Most importantly, they should aling with one's life path. I once had a discussion with the man from Astro Therapia and he too is of the opinion everything inside one's natal chart converges into the lunar nodes. Some of those forces aid in aligning with the nodes' influences easier, others present challenges one must overcome for a better alignment to happen. In this case, Saturn's influences are not aimed to cause pain, although that may be inevitable, but to help people realize there is still time to act on aligning one's self with their nodes.
Every longing memory is a mirror into the past that shows a time where the person was in the best position to do so but failed. It keeps manifesting until such time the person embraces their North Node and starts living in accordance to it. Once that happens, these Saturn influences will fade away sooner or later, allowing people to let go of the past and be able to recollect certain events and people without becoming stuck to those memories.
