More than a few times I've addressed the issue of spells eventually fizzling out, compared to talismans that are ongoing (or at least until they're decommissioned or destroyed). I also spoke of magical results not being permanent.
The two phenomena work hand in hand in my opinion, especially when the desired result has manifested. When that happens it means the energy set into motion by the ritual has grounded itself, bringing the desired outcome into the mundane. It has done so by navigating through obstacles, even smashing though some, the effects of which weakening it. I elaborate on the nature of he obstacles in Words.
Even weaker, it was still able to make things happen, something that drained it even further. Then, after materializing, whatever punch in may still have will disperse either suddenly or gradually. Goal manifested, success achieved, moving on.
As an example, I'll present the outcome one of my Hecate road opening rituals from a few years back. In that case the ritual was done to the opposite effect, i.e. to close roads.
The target had to be prevented from arriving at a certain destination, a place the person was going to on a weekly basis. I wanted to prevent that from ever happening even though I knew it was almost impossible since even though they may have been severely incapacitated, they would eventually end up going to that location even years down the line. That part would be quite probable, but permanently eliminating them from the physical is highly improbable because reasons. Nevertheless, I formulated the intent in such ways to prevent the target from ever getting there.
The target usually traveled the by car and the ride was some 250km long. I did the ritual the day before they were going of on their usual commute, a drive they had taken dozens of times before. They seemed very eager to get there that one time, since they had to attend to a certian reunion.
As it happened, the target had a horrible car accident during that particular trip. The car ws completely smashed, but the passengers escaped with only minor injuries. The person ended up experiencing further financial suffering due to having to pay for the car's repairs. But a few days later the person eventually managed to reach that location nonetheless.
I was pissed because of that, but I realized I had been aiming to high all along. The ritual did its thing, even if it was a one timer. I imagined it focused all its juju at the right moment and used it whole in a spectacular fashion, instead of causing a longer streak of minor annoyances like flat tires or broken fuel pumps, etc.
Compared to the above, my road opening talisman is doing its job very well.
