Señor Humberto (who forbids me from calling him Shaman in public) has recently written an interesting article on Mr Farrell's occult periodical he runs together with his utterly gorgeous bambolina of a wife (who is the reason I hate him so much). The article itself covers personas people involved in the occult in one form or another, identify with. It does a good job transforming labels I usually employ, such as poser, wannabe, or self-proclaimed into more refined terms, as well as dissecting them in more detail. Like all articles on that site, it's a good and helpful read, especially for beginners seeking to find their way in this community (that remains in shambles).
On the other hand, there is the private, even intimate side of the occult, namely one's direct relation to and interaction with the beyond. People can relate to otherworldly entities as pompous fucks or self-righteous whatnots if they so please. Truth be told, the beyond simply does not give a crap regardless of how much an R.R. et A.C. one brags of being part of, or how many times one insists they're a powerful witch whose spells always work.
Gods, angels, or spirits in general see though these people, perceiving them as they really are. Direct contact with the spiritual renders any such fake persona moot, irrespective of how much work and effort the occultist has put into constructing and improving it. The beyond is not impressed, especially since all the person's pettiness, insecurities, or general lameness they so desperately try to hide from others are revealed in detail to otherworldly observers.
Therefore, while building a statue for yourself as being "ye foremost" may confer you even the slightest edge in online debates or petty bickering, such an artificial construct has no value for entities that are not impressed. And even if the occultist doubles down on it, usually relying on various tools and paraphernalia, often alongside lengthy recitation full of big fancy words from a centuries old source, they are still going to be seen as the chump they really are.
In conclusion, while swiping masks may be useful for dealing with people, it won't do squat when dealing with the beyond. In the end, that's not important either, but the fact one is lying to one's self, refusing to acknowledge their own crap and doing something about it.
