This is an article in which I present my view on magical resistance as a result of experimentation. I do not expect everyone (or anyone for that matter) to agree with my view as a whole, or even with one or more points I will be making, but I felt the need to write this article in order to spare myself from having to explain the same thing all over again each time I encounter certain questions. The reader is free to understand whatever he or she wants from it, but I will not explain things a second time for them.
Electrical resistance is basically an opposition to the flow of electric current. The current decreases in flow when it encounters a larger resistance. Resistance is useful in electric and electronic apparatus because it regulates the amount of current that enters the device, allowing it to operate at optimum capacity, otherwise the device would get burned and thus become broken. Resistance is also used in water supply networks, and in basically every network out there that makes use of pipes to transport liquids over vast distances. The thinner the pipe the more resistance the liquid encounters, and thus the slower it will move through the pipe.
The same principle applies in magick, despite the fact many people think that this area operates based on otherworldly rules. A spell, any spell, will encounter more or less resistance from the moment it is cast. Its energies will have to be powerful enough to break through whatever resistance they encounter along their path towards manifesting the person's desired outcome. Otherwise, the spell will grind down to a halt if it cannot overcome the resistance it encounters, or the manifested outcome will be a fuzzy image of what the person had desired in the first place, and this image in turn can very well fade away quickly. That is to say, the results of a spell that encounters a lot of resistance can represent a mere fraction of the change the person wanted to manifest and that small change will eventually get balanced out by the status-quo resulting in the same circumstances the person had encountered prior to casting the spell.
If there were no resistance to magick then miracles would happen every day and everyone who charges a sigil one way or another could become rich within a short amount of time. But unfortunately (or fortunately) that is not the case. The universal mechanism is complex and diverse beyond comprehension and people can only understand so much of it. Even people who are highly involved into the occult and who dedicate time and energy towards expanding their understanding of that mechanism can only manage to discern small areas of it at a time.
Far from being someone who has dedicated his life towards obtaining a better understanding of how things work, my magical experience so far has taught me that this mechanism is self-regulating through change. But this change occurs at its own pace and under its own terms. The status-quo we are experiencing at any given time is constantly in motion because of changes that happen behind the scenes. These changes can be bigger or smaller and for the large part they can go unnoticed by most people. They can be felt though, if one were to know where to look so to speak. And yes, there are times when the changes in the status-quo are sudden and dramatic and can be observed by everyone. This happens because that is how the mechanism had them occur in the first place.
The changes that are taking place in the background at any given moment are generated by a myriad of energies and each of those energies is flowing according to perpetually changing patterns. At any given time some of these energies are conflicting with others, some of them are in harmony with others, while some of them are neutral to others. Or all of that combined in one way or another, resulting in an amalgamation of vast proportions that is constantly producing change in our daily lives. Think of that amalgamation as a maze of energies the layout of which are constantly shifting.
Any spell you cast ads a new energy into that maze and will have to navigate its way through it by finding the quickest route. Within that maze your spell will encounter both energies that favor the outcome it has set out to produce and energies that are opposing that outcome. The former energies will more or less propel your spell towards manifesting in the physical universe, while the latter energies represent resistance to your spell and will act against it either by blocking it, or by deflecting it. In the latter case your spell will lose energy due to the stress it has been subjected to. When you cast a successful spell its energies will have gone through
that maze and came out the other end with enough force that they were
able to manifest your desired outcome.
As a comparison, we encounter resistance in the mundane environment all the time too. When you apply for a job you don't end up being hired on the spot. You have to undergo one or more interviews along the way and those interviews represent resistance in the path of your desire to become hired. The more candidates that have applied for that same job, the more resistance your desire encounters. Similarly, if you want to buy a house, the more people that are interested in it and bid for it, the more resistance you encounter, and the examples can go on. Whichever the case, there are several things a person can do in order to increase their rate of success: applying for a position they are qualified for and for which they've got a decent amount of experience instead of some dream job they are highly under-qualified for; making a good impression at interviews; answering the questions to the point using words and terms appropriate to the field of work in which the job you apply for is included; dressing properly; etc.
Magical resistance is all around at any given time, so no spell is 100% guaranteed to success - in my opinion!!! Therefore, one would have to act on improving those chances of success. A good way of doing it is to set a precise intent behind their spell. Something to the point, with little or no room for interpretation, otherwise any ambiguity could stir the energies of the spell into wrong directions. This can result in either a complete failure, little success, or a new outcome that does not fulfill the initial desire of the person. This has its disadvantage though, because it leaves little room for the energies of the spell to maneuver and navigate through more probabilities, so one would have to be cautious if he or she wants to micromanage the energies on their way to manifestation and dictate a precise path for them, for this also adds resistance.
For example, if you want to receive more money, it would be best not to start adding too many details to that intent when it comes to ways through which money will end up in your possession: "<Spirit Name> bring me <Amount of money> only from the new business I've started yesterday online (which no one knows about except for the few broke af friends I have... and my senile grandma, who happened to give me the idea for it) in which I sell hand-made shoelaces (for lack of a better example). So mote it be!" - this kind of thing has close to zero chances of success unless there's a huge demand out there for hand-made shoelaces no one is aware of and the few posts you've made about your merchandise happen to get noticed by those hungry customers who had been waiting for that thing all their lives.
It is always a good idea to add a time frame for the spell to produce your desire, especially if you're casting for an emergency (although if you train your mind to think in perspective, in time you will reduce the number of emergencies and unexpected situations you will encounter - in my opinion!!!). The time frame itself can add more resistance to the spell, especially if one sets an unrealistic amount of time for the spell to manifest the desired outcome. You can cast for 1 million (hard currency) until midnight, but unless you win the lottery, some rich relative you may not even known about had died and you're part of their will, you receive an unexpected charity check because you're special, etc, your spell will fail. Heck, you can cast for 1 million until next month and that will also have a great chance of failing if you do not have the mundane means of obtaining that money: you don't have a job that pays vasts amounts of money, you don't have a business that generates phenomenal income, you have nothing of such a value you can sell, etc.
Which brings us to the next point: cast for something realistic! Sure, you can start casting for riches beyond imagination, but that does not mean those riches will fall on your lap. If you cast for more money then your chances of success increase a lot more, providing you do not limit the spell (too much), which brings us to the next type of resistance a spell encounters. Since no one wants their spells to produce damage in their lives
and the lives of their close ones unless they're set on doing so on purpose,
limitations would have to be added to that intent. Those limitations in
turn add some degree of resistance to the spell because they block its
energies from taking some routes on their way towards manifesting. It is therefore necessary that the limitations are carefully worded in such a way that, if you strongly need to manifest something, then that something will come into being regardless of people getting their feelings hurt in the process, for example. This includes you. So adding limitations such as "without any harm done" will add more resistance to your spell because they cover different types of harm, not just physical.
Then there is the case in which the person who casts a spell adds more resistance to it by not following up on that spell and not taking mundane steps towards their desired goal. If someone would, say, cast spells to attract more sexual partners, then the best thing they can do is to go out into the world so that the chances of encountering more such people will improve. It is highly improbable that such a spell would result in people breaking the person's door down and jumping naked on them. It is not impossible for that to happen, but the chances are very very slim and it is more likely the person will receive calls or texts from people they already know, inviting them out (or over). So in order to help the spell manifest in the best possible way the person would have to reduce as much resistance on their part as possible and start hanging out in places where a lot of people usually go to have fun, with the potential for that fun to turn into a sexual experience: bars, clubs, etc. The person can end up attracting people whom they are not eager to sleep with in which case they can refuse those people's advances, but again, adding too many preferences to the intent would increase the resistance because it would narrow down on the probabilities.
The previous example focused on casting a general spell for attracting sexual partners, but there is also the case when a person casts on a specific target in order to have that person sleep with them (or fall in love with them). In this case resistance is almost inevitable because, except for rare cases when the target has a secret crush on the person, it is likely that the target will start feeling surprised of the urges they would start feel towards the person to a degree. If the target's will is strong enough, then he or she can resist the urges the spell generates inside of them. This can result in the target becoming annoyed of those urges and the spell will act as a curse on him or her, because it will generate an inner struggle inside of them between their will and their urges until such time the energies of the spell fade away. Even so, it is best to work on reducing the resistance by performing mundane actions, as I have written *HERE*.
Going more in depth into this matter, between every two people out there there is an interaction of energies. Those are the energies present within each person's sphere of sensation and which allow them to interact with the world around. When the person encounters another their energies start interacting with that individual's energies and this interaction is unique based on each individual person they encounter. This is because each individual has their unique energies and so their energies in turn will interact differently with those of the person who encounters them. Based on the energies within each individual's sphere of sensation two people can get along more or less and also someone can find a person more agreeable and another person not at all. There can be more or less physical attraction between them and certain feelings can be more or less present towards one another. One person can manifest certain types of feelings towards the other, while the second person can manifest different feelings all together towards the former, to a lesser or greater degree. Or none at all.
When someone is casting a love-sex-attraction-etc spell on a specific target, the nature of the interaction between their personal energies will increase or decrease the amount of resistance the spell will encounter. If the spell was for love alone and the target has no romantic feelings what so ever towards the person, but instead find them physically appealing to a degree, then the energies of the spell can end up stirring that view of the person inside the target and bringing it to the target's attention more and more. But this will only result in the target wanting to have sex with the person more, and not falling in love with them. Even so, the target can resist the temptations the energies the spell is subjecting them to because of multiple reasons: their will is strong enough, they have no intention of being involved with the person romantically and/or sexually, they are happily married and are loyal to their spouse, etc. If the target has little to no romantic feelings and physical attraction towards the person, but instead they feel the opposite, then the spell will encounter a lot more resistance. So instead of sweeping them off their feet the spell can turn the target hostile towards the person because the inner struggle it had generated can be channeled against the person. This is due to the fact that the person is constantly on the target's mind, making it easy for that inner turmoil to have a direct target towards which it can direct itself.
There is also the case when an individual is more resistant to spells. This happens because the energies within their personal sphere are arranged in such a way and in such proportions that they confer the person with increased protection against energetic influences. In such cases the energies of the spell will bounce off the target's personal energies either partially or completely, resulting in the target being affected way less by the spell or not at all. In this case it would be best to use the target's DNA as a link to which the spell can attach because the DNA contains the direct energy signature of the person and so the spell will have a greater focus on the target. The quality of the link can also increase or decrease the amount of resistance a spell encounters, for the more energy of the target is imprinted into it, the stronger the link becomes. Another good link, albeit weaker than DNA, is the target's handwriting. No too people have the same handwriting, with the handwriting being a manifestation of the individual's personality as the person's unique energies are imprinted into it. The same can be said about their written signature - this is like the person's own sigil, so to speak. Other links can be photos, although these are weaker because in this case the light reflected by the person is captured into the photograph, but in this case it is only a reflection of the person's energies, not the energies themselves. Even so, it would be best that the person's face is showing well and also their eyes, as each individual has distinct facial features.
There are other ways of navigating resistance, besides a carefully worded statement of intent, or obtaining a strong link in case the spell has a precise target. The person can increase the force of their spell by increasing their personal energy at the moment they are casting it, as well as calling on as much energy into the spell as possible. This is done through protocol. Moreover, they can make use of the magical force that is best suited for the task based on the increased strength of that force at the time of the spell. I have written more about this *HERE*. An Earth elemental is better suited for money spells than for love spells, for example, and directing one such spirit for purposes having to do with romance is likely to add resistance to the spell because it's like having a plumber fix your electic panel. And they can cast the spell at an auspicious time when the overall energies favor the manifestation of their intent.
That is about all. I might add more to it later on.
Edit:
Follow the four powers (or virtues or whatever) of the Magus "to know, to will, to dare, to keep silent" and stfu after you've done any ritual!!! Wait until the time frame is over. You don't want people throwing energy in the path of your spell by thinking all kinds of crap about it and thus adding resistance to it! And you don't want certain occultists to cast against it and thus adding far greater resistance because they don't want you to succeed. So stfu!!!
Edit 2:
Another way of overcoming resistance is to cast on the same thing from different angles.
Edit 3:
Then there's that "forget about it" at the end of a spell. The idea here is to let the energy generated in the ritual go into the universe in order to run its course and manifest your desired outcome. The way I see it, if your spell makes use of your energy alone (sigil magick for example) then forgetting about the spell is a must, otherwise you're resisting your own spell by holding that energy inside of yourself instead of letting it go into the universe. If your spell makes use of a spirit's energy alone then you can think about it, but don't throw all kinds of blockages in front of it in the form of energy generated by worry and/or fear! If you're thinking about it you might as well propel it forward by visualizing that happy outcome you want. If your spell makes use of your energy and that of a spirit... do the math!
Hate on, dum-dums!
